Jews bring Jesus to Pilate for Judgment (John 18:28-40)

1. Jewish leaders bring Jesus to Pilate but fear palace entry would make them unclean (28)

Pilate finds no basis to Judge Jesus with Jews declaring their judgment to Crucify (John 19:1-8)

1. Pilate berates Jesus - flogging, crowned with thorns, robed in purple, with face slapped… declaring “Hail King of the Jews” (1-3)

2. Pilate says he bringing Jesus out saying he has no basis to charge him (4)

3. Pilate brings out Jesus and saying “Here is the man” (5)

4. Chief priests shout “Crucify” and Pilate responds you take him and crucify, I find no basis to charge him (6)

5. Jewish leaders demand death because Jesus claimed to be the “Son of God” (7)

6. Hearing of Jesus claim to be the “Son of God” Pilate was more fearful (8)

 

Pilate questions Jesus; source of power clarified as Pilate caves to Jewish crucifixion demands (John 19:9-16)

1. Pilate question Jesus asking where did you come from; with no response from Jesus (9)

2. Pilate asks Jesus “do you refuse to speak to me”; then states he has the power to free (10)

3. Jesus responds you have no power unless given from above; the greater sin is the one who handed me to you (11)

5. Pilate tries to set Jesus free but Jewish leaders pressed Pilate to act (12)

6. Pilate brings Jesus to judge’s seat saying “Here is your King” to Jews (13-14)

7. The Jewish shout they have no king but Caesar, Crucify him (15)

8. Finally, Pilate handed Jesus to them to be crucified and soldier take charge of Jesus (16-17)
