Beginnings

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands" Psalm 19:1



Genesis 1:1-25 God created and in Him is the foundation of things good.  Big Idea: God created all 

Genesis 1:26-2:25  Mankind created in God’s image placed in garden with instructions. Big Idea: God's image-bearers

Genesis 3     Temptation and Sin in Eden bring consequences; separation from God. Big Idea: Sin kills.
Genesis 4

Cain's anger brings separation from God; Seth's offspring call Lord. Big Idea: Sin spreads

Genesis 5-7 Generations from Adam become corrupt; remnant in righteous Noah saved. Big Idea: God judges sin.

Genesis 8:1-9:17 Ark exited with instructions to multiply and God’s rainbow covenant. Big Idea: God is trustworthy

Genesis 9:18-11:9 Adam's sin and son's clans described with Babel language confusion.
Big Idea: Humanity's failure

Genesis 11:10-12:20 Abram's faith journey begins following God's leading; receiving God's promises. Big Idea: Called to new life.

Genesis 13-14 Adam and Lot separate Melchizedek blessing of battle victorious Abram.
Big Idea: Living in Grace

Genesis 15-16 God sees with Aramaic covenant and promised descendant to Hagar.
Big idea: God's faithfulness

Genesis 17:1-18:15 Circumcision confirms Abraham's descendants with God through his son Isaac. Believing God's promise

Genesis 18:16-19:38 Sodom and Gomorrah's sin destroyed; Lot saved with line preserved.
Big Idea: Trusting God's judgment

Genesis 20-21 Abraham and Abimelek resolve differences and Isaac's birth brings laughter. Big Idea: God's patience.

Genesis 22-23 Abraham's faith offering to interceding Lord; Sarah's burial place purchased.
Big Idea - Trust and Obey

Genesis 24 Abraham servant's prayerful spouse mission successfully brings Rebekah to Isaac;
Big Idea - God's provision

Genesis 25-26 Isaac receives inheritance has twins sons, deceives, and is blessed. 
Big Idea - God's perfect character

Genesis 27 Isaac deceived giving Jacob blessing through Rebekah's plot; disunity results. Big Idea - God's Sovereignty

Genesis 28 Blessed Jacob sent for and has heaven stairway dream.
Big Idea - God's Grace
Genesis 29 Jacob arrives at Laban's; works for wife and is deceived.
Big Idea - God's Wisdom
Genesis 30-31 Rivalry enlarge Jacob's family; manipulation generates wealth for homeland return.
Big Idea - Establishes His people
Genesis 32-33 Jacob prepares to meet Esau, wrestles and is renamed Israel.
Big Idea - God's love
Genesis 34-35 Dinah defiled brings cleansing and return to God; blessing Jacob.
Big Idea - Human Sinfulness
Genesis 37-38 Joseph dreams, sold by brothers; Judah's lineage established with Tamar.
Big Idea - God's Trustworthiness
Genesis 39-40 Lord enables Joseph at Potiphar’s, imprisonment and dream interpretation.
Big Idea - Suffering in trials
Genesis 41-42 Pharaoh dreams with Joseph remembered interpreting leading Egypt's food plenty.
Big Idea - God's prevailing goodness
Genesis 43-44 Joseph's brothers' bow, feast, cup is found with Judah mediating.
Big Idea - God brings repentance
Genesis 45:1-47:12 Joseph discloses self; Jacob’s offspring, God blessed, come to Egypt.
Big Idea - God's Purposes
Genesis 47:13-48:22 Joseph’s food management lifesaving, Jacob’s return promised with sons blessed.
Big Idea - God's Blessings
Genesis 49-50 Jacob blesses sons is mourned; Joseph reassures and receives oath.
Big Idea - God's promises

Materials will be available for the remainder of our Genesis study on a weekly basis consistent with our weekly study. If you would like to see homiletics for Genesis from previous years they can be accessed by using the Genesis tab on the main page.

Good afternoon Chuck. First, thanks for your posting this. I find it an excellent resource to check after I’ve completed my homiletics. The greats value for me each week is you application questions.

In checking today, I didn’t find Genesis 41-42. It’s listed but there is no file that I found on your Google drive. If you could point it to me, I’d appreciate it.
