Children of the Promise - 1 Samuel 1-3

Hannah earnestly prays for son and commits him to the Lord (1 Samuel 1-2:11)
a. Elkanah and his wives go to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord. (1:1-8)
b. Hannah is grieved; weeps bitterly and prays because her womb is closed (1:9-11)
c. The priest Eli sees Hannah blesses her in her prayer (1:12-18)
d. Hannah’s prayers are answered with a son Samuel (1:19-20)
e. Hannah stays at home with Samuel until he is weaned. (1:21-23)
f. Hannah takes Samuel to Elis with offering and prayer of praise to God (1:24-2:11)
Samuel and Eli’s sons contrasted; one blessed and grew in Lord while others cut-off (1 Samuel 2:12-36)
b. Eli’s sons had no regard for the Lord and sinned greatly (2:12-17)
c. Samuel ministered grew in Lord while Hannah was blessed with other children (2:18-21)
d. Old Eli challenged his sons sins but they did not listen (2:22-26)

Lord calls Samuel; he listens and grows in the Lord. (1 Samuel 3)
a. Lord calls Samuel but he response initially to Eli (3:1-6)
b. Samuel did not yet know the Lord; the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed. (3:7)
c. Eli realized that the Lord was calling Samuel and instructs what to say (3:8-10)
d. Lord tells Samuel what is to happen to Eli and sons because of sin  (3:11-14)
e. Eli asks Samuel what Lord said and Samuel told all; with Eli declaring that He is Lord (3:15-18)
f. Samuel grew and the Lord revealed himself to Samuel (3:19-21)

A determined Ruth remains with Naomi and returns to Bethlehem (Ruth 1)
a. Elimelek and sons die leaving Naomi and daughter-in-law widows (1-4)
b. Naomi urges daughters-in-law to return to their family (5-15)

Boaz shows favor to Ruth in Harvest of Grain (Ruth 2)
