Elijah’s journey ends – Taken to Heaven; cloak passed to Elisha (2 Kings 2:1-12)

1. Elijah to Elisha – Lord sent me to Bethel; they go (1-2)

2. Company of prophets ask “Do you know that Lord is going to take master?” Elisha responds “Yes, so be quiet” (3)

3. Elijah to Elisha – Lord sends to Jericho; they go (4)

Elisha confirmed as prophet for Israel; healing water and jeered (2 Kings 2:13-25)

1. Elisha picks up Elijah’s cloak, strikes water, it divides just as it did for Elijah and he crosses over (13-14)

2. Watching prophets say “Spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha and bow down (15)

3. Prophets offer to search for Elijah, they persist but do not find him (16-17)

4. Prophet return to Elisha; with his remark “didn’t I tell you not to go (18)

5. Healing water and land (19-22)

a. People of city report of bad water and unproductive land (19)

b. Elisha request bowl and salt (20)

c. Elisha throws salt in spring declaring the Lord has healed water and unproductive land (21-22)

6. Elisha jeered by boys of town (23-25)

a. Boys call out “Get out of here Baldy” (23)

d. Elisha goes to Mount Carmel and then to Samaria (25)

Elisha, prophet of Lord, is consulted by Joram and Jehoshaphat in conflict with Moabites for victory (2 Kings 3)

1. Joram becomes king of Israel and gets rid of sacred stone of Baal, but clings to sin (1-3)

2. At Ahab’s death, King of Moab rebels and refuses to pay tribute (4-5)

3. Joram mobilizes Israel, asking for help from Jehoshaphat and he agrees (6-7)

4. Kings go through Desert of Edom where they run out of water (8-10)

5. Jehoshaphat asks for prophet to inquire of Lord and Elisha (11-12)

6. Elisha questions why they want to involve him and King of Israel responds Lord called us together to battle Moab (13)

7. Elisha asks for harpist, then tells what Lord says… valley filled with water, deliver Moab, cities destroyed and good field filled with stones (14-20)

8. Moabites heard of kings coming, see water looking red like blood and come to plunder (21-23)

9. Moabites enter Israel’s camp to the fight and flee; Israelites destroy fortified towns (24-25)

10. King of Moab sees result of battle, kills son and returns to own land (26-27)
