Disciples experience transfigured Jesus with Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:1-13) a. Peter, James and John go up mountain alone with Jesus (1) b. Jesus is transfigured before them and Moses and Elijah appear talking with Jesus (2-3) c. Peter asks if Jesus wanted three shelters for Jesus, Moses and Elijah; then the Lord comments Jesus and says listen to him (4-5) d. Hearing they fall face down terrified; Jesus touches them and says fear not (6-8) e. Jesus instructs disciples not to share what they had seen until He is raised from dead (9) f. Disciples ask and Jesus responds to questions about Elijah coming first (10-12a) g. Jesus describes suffering; then they knew the Elijah was John the Baptist (12b-13)

Disciples learn of possibilities of Mustard Seed faith (Matthew 17:14-23) a. A man approaches Jesus asking for his Son’s healing from seizures (14-15) b. Man mentions that disciples could not heal his son (16) c. Jesus calls out unbelief and rebukes the demon healing boy (17-18) d. Disciples ask Jesus why they couldn’t drive out demon (19) e. Jesus reply that they have little faith (20) f. Disciples told of faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains; nothing is impossible (21) g. Disciples filled with grief when told of Jesus death, burial and resurrection (where’s their faith) (22-23)

Disciple Peter experiences God’s provision for Temple Tax (Matthew 17:24-27) a. Arriving in Capernaum, the temple tax collectors come to collect tax (24) b. Jesus asks Peter, who do kings of earth collect tax, from their children or others (25) c. Peter responds “others” and Jesus reflects that then children are exempt (26) d. Jesus respond to Peter so that we may not cause offense go fishing (27a) e. Jesus tells Peter that the first fish will have four coins in his mouth to pay temple tax for Peter and himself (27b)
