Revelation 8-9

Silence and Prayers as Seventh Seal Opened - (Revelation 8:1-5)

1. John sees the seventh seal opened and there was silence for half an hour (8:1)

2. John sees seven angels before the throne given seven trumpets (8:2)

3. Another angel had given golden censer stood at the alter (8:3)

4. Incense smoke and prayers of God’s people went up to God (8:4)

5. Angel took censer filled it with fire from altar and hurled it on earth resulting in: (8:5)

a. Peals of thunder

b. Rumblings

c. Flashes of lightning

d. Earthquakes

 

Seven Angels prepare to sound trumpets with first four trumpets sounded (Revelation 8:6-12)

1. First angel sounds trumpet – hail and fire mixed with blood hurled to earth (8:7)

Result: Third burnt of earth, trees, and all grass.

2. Second angel sounds trumpet – something like a huge mountain ablaze thrown into sea. (8:8-9)

Result: Third of the sea turned to blood, third of the creatures in sea died, third of the ships destroyed.

3. Third angel sounds trumpet – Great blazing star fell from the sky on third of rivers and springs of water “Named Wormwood” (8:10-11)

Result: Third of waters turn bitter, many people died from bitter water.

4. Fourth angel sounds trumpet – third of sun, moon and stars with third turning dark. (8:12)

Result: Third of the day was without light and also third of the night.

Eagle announces woes to inhabitants of earth loudly (Revelation 8:13-9:21)

1. Eagle loudly announces Woe’s to inhabitants of earth (8:13)

2. Fifth angel sounds trumpet – star given key to shaft of abyss (8:14-9:12) Result:

a. Smoke like from gigantic furnace.

b. Sun and sky darkened from smoke

c. Out of smoke locusts came with power like scorpions on the earth

d. Told not to harm grass, plant or tree, only those without seal of God and not allowed to kill but to torture 5 months.

e. Locust described looked like horses for battle, heads crowns of gold, faces like human, woman, lion teeth, breastplates of iron, wings thundering, tails like stingers and their king was angel of Abyss. First Woe done.

3. Sixth angel sounds trumpet – voice release four angels; troops kill third of mankind.   (9:13-21)

a. Horses and riders red, blue and yellow kill third of mankind

b. Rest of mankind did not repent

1. John sees four angels holding back winds preventing it from blowing on land, sea and trees (7:1)

1. John sees before him a great multitude (no one could count) from every nation, tribe, people, language standing before the throne (7:9a)

2. Multitude was wearing white robes and holding palm branches crying out “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.” (7:9b-10)

3. All angels, elders and four living creatures standing around throne saying “Amen! Praise and glory, wisdom, thanks, honor, power, strength, be to our God forever and ever. Amen (7:11-12)

 

 

 

White robed are washed in the blood of Lamb praise and are protected (Revelation 7:13-17)

1. One of the elders asks John about those in white robes “who are they and where did they come from?” (7:13)

2. John responded “you know” and elder said from the great tribulation washed in the blood of the Lamb (7:14)

3. White robed serve God both day and night in His temple (7:16-17)

a. He will shelter them with His presence.

b. They will never again hunger or thirst.

c. Sun will not beat down on them nor scorching heat.

d. Lamb at center of the throne will be their shepherd and lead to springs of living water

e. God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

Revelation 6

Horseman bring Chaos and Death (Revelation 6:1-8)

1. Lamb opened first of seven seals with voice of living creature saying “come” (6:1)

2. Looking before John is white horse with a rider holding bow; given a crown and rode out to conquest (6:2)

3. Lamb opened second seal with second living creature saying “come” (6:3)

4. A fiery red horse comes out with rider given: (6:4)

a. Power to take peace from the earth and make people kill each other (6:4a)

6. A black horse before John with rider holding a pair of scales (6:5b)

Slain Martyrs request Divine Justice (Revelation 6:9-11)

1. Fifth seal opened and under the alter were the souls slain because of the word of God and testimony they maintained (6:9)

2. Slain souls called out “how long until God judges the earth and avenge our blood (6:10)

3. Each was given white robe and told to wait a little longer (6:11a)

4. Wait until the full number of fellow servants (brothers and sisters) were killed just as they had been (6:11b)

 

 

Unbelievers fear at Signs of Calamity (Revelation 6:12-17)

1. Sixth seal opened with: (6:12-14)

a. Great earthquake,

b. Sun turned black   

c. Moon turned red,

d. Stars fell to earth

e. Heaven receded like a scroll rolled up

f.  Every mountain and island removed from its place

2. Then kings of earth, princes, generals, rich, mighty and everyone else (slave and free) hid in caves and among rocks of mountains (6:15)

3. They called out to mountains and rocks to fall on them and hide from: (6:16)

a. The one who sits on the throne

b. From the wrath of the Lamb

4. Great day of their wrath; who can withstand it (6:17)

Revelation 5

Scroll and Worthy One to unseal.

 (Revelation 5:1-5)

1. John sees in the right hand of the one on the throne a scroll with 7 seals (1)

2. Mighty angel proclaiming loudly “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” (2)

3. No one in heaven, earth or under could open it and see the contents (3)

4. John weeps because no one was found worthy of opening scroll to see inside (4)

5. One of the elders said don’t weep the Lion of Judah is able to open the scroll and its 7 seals (5)

 

 

Lamb takes scroll and New Song saying Worthy (Revelation 5:6-10)

1. John sees the Lamb, looking as if slain standing in the center of the throne. (6a)

a. Encircled by four living creatures and the elders (6b)

b. Lamb had 7 horns and 7 eyes which are 7 spirits of God sent out to all the earth (6c)  

2. He took the scroll from the one on the throne (7)

3. When he took it the 4 living creatures and 24 elders fell before the Lamb. (8)

a. Each had a harp (8b)

b. Holding golden bowls of incense [prayer of the people] (8c)

4. A new song was sung… Worthy because you were slain, you made persons from every tribe, language, people and nation a kingdom to serve God (9-10)

Voices of Angels and then All creation saying Worthy (Revelation 5:11-14)

1. John looks and hears voice of many angels; thousands and thousands and they encircled throne, creatures and elders (11)

2. In loud voice they say “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise (12)

3. Then every creature in heaven, earth, under earth and sea say “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise, honor, glory and power forever and ever”. (130
