Manasseh’s evil brings distress, cries to Lord and reforms (2 Chronicles 33)

1. Manasseh did evil in eyes of Lord; rebuilding high places, erected altars to Baals, desecrating temple and sacrificing his children (33:1-6)

2. Manasseh put image he made in temple; leading Judah and Jerusalem estray doing more evil than nations destroyed (33:7-10)

3. Manasseh was taken prisoner by Assyrians, in distress he called on Lord and listened (33:11-13)

4. Manasseh rebuilt outer wall, got rid of foreign gods, and sacrificed to Lord (33:14-20)

5. Amon became king after father’s death, but did not humble himself to Lord; he was assassinated making Josiah king (33:21:25)

 

Josiah faithfulness brings cleansing reforms and return to Lord (2 Chronicles 34-35)

1. Josiah tore down and purged idols and altars foreign gods (34:1-7)

2. Josiah he purified land and temple (34:8:17)

a. Josiah gave money to Hilkiah the high priest to repair and restore temple (34:9-13)

b. Book of Law found and brought to Josiah (34:14-17)

3. Josiah hears words of Lord, tore robes and seeks advice from prophet Huldah (34:18-22)

4. Prophet sends words of Lord; disaster will come to because of unfaithfulness, but, because of responsive heart, you will not see all the disaster (34:23-28)

5. Josiah calls people of Judah to hear words of Covenant and renews covenant with Lord faithfully (34:29-33)

6. Josiah celebrates Passover and Festival of Unleavened Bread (35:1-19)

7. Josiah meets Necho (king of Egypt) (35:20-27)

a. Necho says no quarrel with Judah (35:20-21)

b. Josiah does not turn away (35:22)

c. Josiah shot with arrow and later dies (35:23-27)

Succession of evil kings result in Judah’s exile to Babylon (2 Chronicles 36)

1. Jehoahaz becomes king and dethroned by king of Egypt and carries off to Egypt (36:1-4)

2. Jehoiakim as king did evil in eyes of Lord and was taken by Nebuchadnezzar to Babylon along with articles from temple (36:5-8)  

3. Kehoiachin as king taken to Babylon with articles of value from temple (36:9-10)

4. Zedekiah as king did evil in eyes of Lord and would not humble before prophet Jeremiah and became stiff-necked would not turn to Lord (36:11-13)

5. People were unfaithful following detestable practices of nations (36:14)

6. God sent messengers who were mocked; Nebuchadnezzar comes kills and carries off people and treasure from temple fulfilling words of Jeremiah (36:15-21)

7. Cyrus king of Persia tells Lord of Heaven appointed to build a temple in Jerusalem and tells people to return. (36:22-23)
