Herod Question:  Is Jesus the risen John the Baptist (Matthew 14:1-13)

a. Herod hears about Jesus and miraculous powers; Is it, John, from the dead (1-2)

b. Herod had arrested John because John called out for brother’s wife Herodias (3-4)

c. Herod wanted to kill but was afraid because thought prophet  (5)

d. Herod’s oath to Herodias’ daughter for birthday dance led to beheading John the Baptist (6-11)

e. John’s disciples buried his body and came and tells Jesus (12)

Disciples Used: experience Jesus miraculously feeding 5000. (Matthew 14:14-21)

a. Disciples approach Jesus as he is teaching in a remote place asking if they should send the crowds away for food (14-15)

b. Jesus replies to disciples “you give them something to eat (16)

c. Disciples tell Jesus they have 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes (17)

d. Jesus blesses the loaves and fishes and disciples distribute to people (18-19)

e. People ate and satisfied and then disciples picked up pieces leftover (20)

Disciples Recognize: Jesus walks on water and calms the sea and know Jesus is Son of God  (Matthew 14:22-36)

a. Jesus makes disciples get in a boat and go to the other side, and he dismisses the crowd (22)

b. Jesus goes up the mountainside alone  to pray (23)

c. Disciples boat is buffeted when Jesus walks on the lake to their boat (24-25)

d. Disciples seeing Jesus are terrified and cry out, Jesus calms their fear.  (26-27)

e. Peter requests Jesus ask him to come (walk on water); Jesus says come (28-29)

f. Jesus catches Peter and questions his doubt (30-31)

g. Disciples recognize Jesus as Son of God (32-33)
